I was at one of my favourite cafes in the city. It was packed as usual so you were lucky to get a seat. I arrived before the rush so my friend and I were able to get a table on the wall right beside a couch. In between breaks of work and conversation we sometimes people watch just to see how all types of people interact with each other.
A guy in his mid twenties was sitting with an older gentleman on the couch just reading the newspapers. A girl in her early twenties was getting in line to grab her drink while looking around for a seat. Fortunately for her the older gentleman got up just as her drink came across the cafe bar. She took a glance at the couch for a second. She was an attractive girl and the younger guy on the couch noticed her looking at the now vacant seat. She looked over at the couch and ever so casually she walked over to ask the guy if it was okay to sit with him. He looked up at her and a smile came across his face. She smiled back at him as he said you’re more than welcome to sit down. You can tell that they never met before by the tension and awkwardness that comes with first time meets. But you could tell from their body language and the smiles on their faces that they were happy to be talking to one another afterward.
They carried on a conversation and the whole time they were smiling and laughing while exchanging jokes and stories. He eventually said he had to go. He got up to put on his coat and picked up his bag. He introduced his name then gave her his business card. He shook her hand with a big smile and greeted her a good night before he went out the door. She didn’t take his eyes off of him until he left the cafe completely. She looked back at his business card and had the biggest smile on her face and safely held on to it.
I have never seen a first meet happen like this where there was so much chemistry, connection and romance. There was so much genuine elation to be in someone’s presence that you connected with. I know a lot of people think chivalry is dead but it’s not. Romance and maybe even love at first site is still around. It may not be prevalent in today’s society but…
